Creating Artistic Environments

Stage & Event Design / Build

Geary and Hyde Design works closely with clients to create some of the most exciting experiential environments. Many of our projects have entertained people from The Bay Area and beyond. By utilizing modern technology we take innovative ideas and turn them into a large scale sculptural reality for all to enjoy.

There’s nothing more impactful than a gripping design for your event’s stage. When creating new environments for performers our Founder and Lead Designer, Ryan Montgomery, takes his 30+ years of theatrical experience into account and builds sets that are playgrounds for performers of all types. From DJ Booths to complete set designs careful thought is applied to every aspect of the event producer’s needs. We also collaborate closely with lighting designers, projection and laser artists, flame effects professionals, and sound designers to make sure every aspect of your production runs as smoothly as possible.

Union Street Festival

Union Street Festival Main Stage

Geary and Hyde Design created the Main Stage for the annual Union Street Festival. By taking inspiration from San Francisco’s psychedelic poster art we created a uniquely beautiful stage incorporating the California Poppy to celebrate the arrival of summer.

This facade was built in our shop in San Francisco’s Mission District. The Union Street Festival is attended by thousands of people in the beginning of June and is one of San Francisco’s most successful free street festivals. It was our great pleasure to have our design and fabrication featured at such an amazing local event.

The Ghost Palace Stage

Ghost Palace Main Stage

We had an absolute blast making the CNC cut backdrop for San Francisco’s biggest Halloween party. There’s nothing spookier than the wrought iron fences designed to keep the ghosts and ghouls inside the cemetery.

Building on our long history with Non Plus Ultra and Hush concerts was such a great opportunity. This was such a fun build and a great way to kick off the revitalized Halloween massive in it’s new home, The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. The mainstage was the host to so many fantastic artists and the heart of the event.

These stage elements are now in rotation and have decorated the event for two years running.

The Portal Art Installation

The Portal

The Portal was a 22′ diameter circular truss engineered and fabricated by Geary and Hyde Design. Over the course of three years The Portal was flown as an illuminated chandelier with video mapping, hung as a backdrop for San Francisco’s biggest Halloween event, and installed as an archway to welcome visitors to a lounge at one of Burning Man’s Artumnal Gathering.

By creating a completely modular installation Geary and Hyde Design was able to fabricate a massive art installation that could be disassembled into small components and reassembled in a wide variety of venues.

The LED lighting and video mapped projection made this an outstanding statement and central focus at the events where it was featured. After the success of The Portal’s first installation the LED sculptural walls were added.

DUSTFISH Village Stage 2015

The DUSTFISH Stage

Designing a CNC cut truss system that could span a 24 foot wide stage in the Black Rock Desert was an immense challenge. This interlocking system was created specifically for this project and  modeled off of standard lighting truss systems. Engineering it out of filigreed plywood sheets that could be assembled entirely by a group of intrepid volunteers made for a truly satisfying build.

Scrib'd One Million Subscribers Set

Scrib’d One Million Subscribers

To celebrate their one millionth subscriber Scrib’d hired Geary and Hyde Design to fabricate the set and decor for their event at August Hall. We love Art Deco and this was a great opportunity to design custom lighted elements harkening back to the Gatsby era.

All of the Art Deco line work was created specifically for this installation. Each stage element was lined with white nylon and back lit in a variety of colors throughout the evening.

The DUSTFISH Stage 2015

This project launched what would eventually become Geary and Hyde Design. In 2015 Ryan Montgomery designed the DUSTFISH Stage for the first time. With a crew of dedicated volunteers we built our first large scale installation artwork. This is the first project where we used a CNC router to create parts. Little did we know then that these techniques would soon become the backbone of a new business.
